Five Reasons You Should Take the Clifton StrengthsFinder Assessment

August 13, 2017 by Cheryl Jackson

As a Gallup Certified Clifton StrengthsFinder Coach, I have seen not only my own life become exponentially better, but I have worked with clients to see their lives change in dramatic ways as a result of learning about their innate God given strengths.

Many people have told me, “I already know what I’m good at.” I don’t doubt that at all, especially when I’m speaking with highly successful people. However, the very nature of these strengths is they are INNATE. They are natural and are done without thinking…they are subconscious patterns of behavior we perform repetitively day in and day out.  We don’t even notice that we do them. That is what makes taking the assessment so powerful for most people.

As a coach and evangelist for strengths, I have seen several compelling reasons to take the Strengths Assessment.  Here are my top 5 reasons to take the assessment.

FIRST: MAXIMIZE YOUR POTENTIAL

No matter how successful you are, everyone has untapped potential. The strengths assessment will give you specific areas of focus to aim your self-development at. The strengths assessment doesn’t measure “WHAT” you’re good at, but rather “HOW” you accomplish what you are already good at.

SECOND: BE THE BEST VERSION OF YOURSELF

Research has proven that focusing on improving strengths will exponentially increase your performance over focusing on improving weaknesses to make you more well rounded. The difference is like shooting a rifle instead of a shotgun at a target. You get the picture!

THIRD: MORE ENERGY TO DO THE THINGS YOU LOVE

Think about it, when you do the things you love, don’t you often say, “When can I do that again?” The same thing applies to living and focusing on growing your strengths. You are naturally inclined to do things a certain way…often different from others. There is usually a strength at work. Identify the specific strength, hone it and you will find yourself excelling even more at what you already LOVE. That will energize anyone!

FOURTH: JOIN A COMMUNITY OF STRENGTHS FOCUSED PEOPLE

Let’s face it, even if you’re an extreme introvert, we weren’t created to work alone. There is energy, synergy, and power in working with teams. That is where being “well rounded” should be considered. A well-rounded team of people who approach things differently and understand the benefit of combined wisdom over conventional wisdom is where new innovations, growth, and increased performance arise from.

FIFTH: ACQUIRE A NEW LANGUAGE FOR EXPRESSING THE BEST OF YOURSELF

One of the ways I help my clients is by helping them make plans.  How does this happen?  I help them talk out what’s going on with their business and help them find answers that are already there.  After the answers are out in the open is when the magic really happens though.  Because I know and understand how my client works best with their team I give them the confidence to take the first step in executing their plan.  Newfound confidence in your voice as a leader is speaking from a new perspective, a new language you can utilize to lead yourself first.
