Identifying The 10 Behaviors of Successful Entrepreneurs

October 29, 2016 by Cheryl Jackson

leadership-team_Have you ever wondered what strengths are exhibited in highly successful entrepreneurs? Well you’ve come to the right place.  Gallup, after years of studying the behaviors of 4000 highly successful entrepreneurs found 10 recurring patterns of behavior that occurred over and over in the leadership teams of the companies they researched. The 10 patterns exhibited unique behaviors that increased the entrepreneurial energy and success of these companies.

As you read this post identifying the 10 behaviors of successful entrepreneurs, think about which of these strengths are not already incorporated in your business’ leadership team.

Delegator

has the ability to innately identify the skills and strengths of others around them. They have a keen ability to ask the right people to do the specific tasks required to move a project forward efficiently while empowering them to accomplish the task and hold themself accountable to report their progress and challenges. Delegation is a required strength on a team to transition the business through the stages of growth.

Determination

is required to rally the team to stay focused on the potential of the company when encountering challenges that might seem to some to be impossible. Every business faces challenges on the journey to growth. The strength of determination will be vital when obstacles come and morale and the will to stay the course suffers.

Independence

strength has a handle on all facets of the business. They could single-handedly operate the business because of their working knowledge of all the parts. They set goals, take action and can handle a lot of tasks simultaneously.

Risk

intuitively knows the risks worth taking. It is second nature to them to gather the information to make a calculated decision that will be rational and successful. They are comfortable with uncertainty and energized by it. They are willing to take the risks that are worth taking because they have weighed the options.

Disruptor

thinks creatively. Ideas come easily for solving issues and clearing the way for the business to grow. Their ideas often disrupt markets which pave the way for new ways to find people willing to pay for the service and products of the business. They are always future focused, challenging the company to move forward efficiently and effectively.

Knowledge

values information and is always learning about the business so that it can grow. Details and statistics energize the person with this strength. They are readily able to contribute data and they are the resource or know the resources needed when making important decisions.

Relationship

strengths are socially connected and aware of who is needed to grow the business through their diverse networks. They are very talented at attracting the right people to the cause and able to maintain vital partnerships. Relationship strengths are often the glue that help teams stick together and work in one accord toward their goals.

Confidence

strengths are just that. People with confidence are self-assured and their personal confidence translates into confidence in the business objectives. They know themselves well and together with their confidence in the business others will respond in-kind.

Profitability

is a vital strength in a business endeavor. Entrepreneurs with this strength have sharp business instincts and a keen understanding of the finances. They can interpret the data and can set clear realistic goals that stretch and challenge. Numbers tell a story for the person with this strength.

Selling

strength gives entrepreneurs the ability to be persuasive, and communicate clearly as representatives for the business. Others will be drawn into the mission of the business through the core team leaders with the selling strength.

Wrapping Up

Teams with all 10 Entrepreneurial strengths perform at a much higher rate of success. However, the true mark of a successful team is one that acknowledges, supports and respects the strengths in one another enough to trust each person to fully contribute their unique perspective. Working together builds unity that accomplishes the business goals. The result is a strong, growing company.
