As the first post in a series of posts, I’m going to let the cat out of the bag about my top 5 strengths! You’ll get the “Good, the Bad and the Ugly.”
Yes, strengths have a balcony quality where they are good–like a superpower to use and accomplish great things. They also have a basement quality where they are bad and ugly–like kryptonite and robs our energy and greatness.
My Maximizer strength works like glue connecting everything I do everyday as a coach. I see the best in every client I work with and then I partner with them to move forward into their greatness. Seeing my clients excel is rewarding to me and why I love being a coach.
Maximizer is my #1 strength
Maximizer is grouped as an Influencing strength. Maximizers see strengths in others and love to help them become excited about their potential. They are able to naturally know what others do best and what jobs they excel in. Excellence not average is the measure a maximizer attains to and they only like working to make strong become superb.
I have a client who owns his own technology based business. He has a natural ability to see the potential in a business idea. He even intuitively builds a successful business model and has many influencing talents to support him in building his business.
His challenge is sorting out the ideas he has and staying focused on the best of the best. In every appointment, my maximizer kicks in to help him to hone in on the best of his ideas and chart a course to take him to excellence. We focus on his influencing strengths to trigger excellence and manage any weaknesses. He is my favorite kind of client…the kind of client that doesn’t need fixing…just a coach to guide him to engage the greatness he already has within.
The basement of this talent
Maximizers can come off as critical and never satisfied, always tweaking and reworking what has been done. My mantra to stay out of the basement is “Be mindful everyday to see progress, and not demand perfection from myself and others.” It is no accident that I also am drawn to work with the best–my favorites–so I must guard against this tendency (unless of course, you’re my favorite!).
Mindfulness is my key to avoid Maximizer’s kryptonite in the basement.
I LOVE that Maximizer is my #1 strength!
Maximizer serves me in growing my business and my clients to grow their business. When people in my strengths community find out I have Maximizer as my first strength, they say things like…”I can see that in you.” That’s the greatest compliment I can receive.
